The plastic water main pipe was installed yesterday through the tunnel that was directionally drilled. The method is called Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). This process involves pushing a reamer through the ground in the location that the new water main will go, slightly larger than the pipe to be used for the water main. Once this tunnel is created, the pipe is pulled through it in one long line. The contractor plans to connect this new pipe to the existing water main at Windsor and Central. Due to this operation, the intersection will be closed on Monday starting at 7 AM and will last most of the day. We ask residents to please plan accordingly.
Next week, the contractor will continue working on the water main, installing a valve at the north end of the project, as well as the fire hydrants.

Work Beginning This Week!
The contractor is planning to start work this Friday (weather dependent). The first few days are going to be spent locating and exposing all existing utilities, so that we can avoid any conflicts with the water main installation. Once that is complete, the contractor will begin boring the tunnel for the water main, scheduled to start in the middle of next week.

Scheduled Start Date
Work is scheduled to begin on Windsor in a couple of weeks. We will be looking towards mid-April for actual digging to start. The contractor has opted to directionally drill the water main, as opposed to the originally planned open-cut method. This is a much less invasive procedure, plus safer to the public, since there won’t be an open trench along the road as the contractor is working. This will also reduce the amount of landscape restoration needed.
